OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Operations Manager apprenticeship develops confident, capable leaders ready to drive performance and innovation. Blending expert coaching with practical learning, it empowers professionals to lead teams, manage operations, and deliver real organisational impact while earning a respected ILM Level 5 qualification.

This programme is for individuals preparing to step into management or supervisory roles overseeing teams, driving organisational performance, and leading strategic change with confidence and impact.

The candidate completes the modules through online classroom sessions, led by their skills coach. They also undertake workplace practice, applying the skills and knowledge they are learning on their course. This workplace practice, along with other learning activities that happen on-the-job, is recorded as part of their off-the-job learning. 

Once the candidate has completed all the modules, they will be assessed by an independent external organisation.  The assessment includes:

  • Showcasing a portfolio of evidence
  • Participating in a professional discussion
  • Presentation of a project and taking questions afterwards.

On completion, the candidate will have achieved a level 5 apprenticeship, along with level 5 ILM level certification.

Large firms have 100% of course costs covered by their apprenticeship levy funds. For small and medium-sized businesses, the government funds 95% of the course, with the employer contributing 5%. Sometimes, the 5% can be covered by through other funding opportunities, which means there are no costs at all.

There is no cost to the candidate who does the course.

Completing this apprenticeship equips participants to competently carry out senior roles such as operations or departmental manager. They can register as full CMI or ILM members, and those with three years’ management experience can apply for Chartered Manager status through the CMI. Participants can access careers information, advice and guidance throughout their training programme.

Our enrolment process is straightforward. Once they have the approval of their employer, the participant:

  • completes an online application form
  • undertakes some online assessments
  • attends an onboarding call with the TRS enrolment officer

After this, training begins.

  • Age: Apprentices must be 16 or older to begin an apprenticeship. There is no upper age limit.
  • Location: They must live in England and have the right to work in the UK. Apprentices must spend at least 50% of their working hours in England.
  • Education status: Apprentices must not be in full-time education when the apprenticeship starts. They can, however, apply for an apprenticeship while still in school.
  • Employment status: An apprentice must be employed & earning a wage. They can be a new hire or an existing employee who is being upskilled.
  • Other restrictions: Apprentices cannot be enrolled in another funded apprenticeship or a Department for Education-funded programme at the same time. 
  • Role suitability:
    Apprentices must be in a job that is relevant to the apprenticeship they are doing and that gives them the opportunity to practice the skills they are learning.

This course can last up to 24 months but may be shorter depending on the participant’s prior experience and training.

The TRS Team provides tailored support with anything that might affect training progress, from workplace challenges to personal concerns. Anyone who has a special educational need or a disability has access to specialist support. As well as teaching, TRS skills coaches offer careers guidance, wellbeing support, and regular mentoring throughout the learning journey.
