Steered by Honour: TRS Supports Veterans Through Charity-Branded Fleet

  • Post category:Charities

TRS is proud to share that we have become a bronze patron of Veterans into Logistics. What better way to share this news than by announcing it on all our fleet of driver training trucks?

TRS driving school manager, Mike Lucas arranged for the tailor-made livery to be displayed on all TRS training vehicles. It features the Veterans into Logistics logo, emphasising the important work the charity does training and mentoring military veterans and Armed Forces service leavers into new careers as HGV drivers.

After being introduced to Veterans into Logistics at a career fair, TRS business development manager, Andy Tolley pitched the idea of becoming patrons to Kevin Birch, managing director of TRS and a veteran himself.  Andy says: “I recognised the potential that sharing resources and connections with Veterans into Logistics could have on the lives of those looking to get into the logistics industry after leaving the forces.

“Whether it be apprenticeships, training or job opportunities, it all plays a part in supporting the individuals and changing futures”.

After meeting with Darren Wright, founder of the charity, TRS pledged to become bronze patrons. As TRS are a leading training provider in logistics offering apprenticeships and training courses we will be extending these opportunities to Veterans into Logistics service users.

Encouraging support from others

TRS driving school manager Mike is also a veteran. He gained his HGV licence whilst serving as a corporal in the 16 Air Assault Brigade. After returning to civilian life Mike utilised his licences to become a qualified instructor, completed his Transport Manager CPC and has now excelled in a senior management position with TRS.

Mike’s career development exemplifies the opportunities available for veterans in the logistics industry. Mike says, ‘I hope that by sharing our patronage with Veterans into Logistics, we can encourage other logistics companies and training providers to support the career development of those individuals who have served their country’.

Female veterans

TRS driving instructor and former Women’s Royal Army corporal Jackie Walton, gained her HGV licence when driving for the Royal Engineers. Jackie left the regulars in 1991 and joined the Territorial Army to develop her driving skills further. In 2003, Jackie was called up for active service in Kuwait, operating vehicles in operation Telic.

After completing her deployment in 2004 Jackie became a qualified driving instructor and returned to civilian life whilst continuing to support female veterans via the Women’s Royal Army Corps Association. Witnessing firsthand the impact integrating back into civilian life can have on an individual Jackie says, ‘I am proud that TRS are supporting the Veterans into Logistics charity, and I look forward to seeing fellow veterans benefit from the charity and opportunities it can provide’.
