We are delighted to announce that TRS has once again achieved the prestigious Matrix Standard accreditation. This accolade, which highlights our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality information, advice and guidance (IAG), places us among the best providers in the UK for training and career support services.
The Matrix Standard, owned by the Department for Education, is the gold standard for organisations offering IAG services, ensuring they meet the highest levels of quality and effectiveness. It provides an essential framework for assessing suitability, helping providers like us deliver outstanding support to learners, employers and partners.
Assessor comments
This year’s assessment recognised the strides we’ve made in refining our processes. In particular, it highlights the positive impact it has had on learners and employers alike. Here are some key points from the assessor’s report:
- Changes to employer engagement
The introduction of dedicated contract managers for major employers was commended for its effectiveness. These managers are in regular contact with partners, addressing their needs quickly and efficiently. As a result, we have developed exciting new tailored programmes such as the Team Leader course for John Lewis. Another example is the Lean Manufacturing apprenticeship for Specsavers. Both demonstrate our commitment to adapting to employer requirements.
- Quality systems enhancements
Feedback gathered through face-to-face discussions has added significant value to our quality assurance process. This approach has strengthened our ability to identify issues, gain deeper insights into learner experiences, and act swiftly to resolve concerns. A standout observation from learners was their appreciation for the flexibility of lesson delivery, which supports the unique requirements of shift workers.
- Onboarding developments
Recognising earlier inconsistencies in onboarding, we implemented a checklist system and regular trainer meetings. The assessor praised these developments, noting that they have fostered greater consistency and improved the onboarding experience for learners. Additionally, the introduction of shadowing and buddying systems has been positively received, further supporting new learners.
Overcoming challenges
The assessor also acknowledged challenges over the past year. In particular, changes around English and maths requirements and their impact on learners, staff, and programmes.
Reflecting on the achievement, TRS’s Quality Manager Rachel Ashton said, “We’re thrilled to retain our Matrix accreditation this year. The process not only reaffirms our work but also gives us valuable feedback for strengthening our service. Achievements like this are only possible thanks to the hard work of our team and the collaborative input from learners, partners, and employers.”
Why the Matrix Standard matters
The Matrix Standard is more than just a badge of honour. It is a comprehensive tool for driving quality and demonstrating excellence in IAG services. Achieving this accreditation underlines our commitment to providing guidance that genuinely helps people and organisations thrive. It also ensures we meet the high industry standards required by the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) and other regulatory bodies.
