Norfolk & Suffolk logistics firms can access 90% funded course
Most logistics businesses know the pressure their traffic office is under right now. Teams are stretched, compliance expectations are growing, and many operators are relying on experienced staff simply “learning on the job.” But what happens when a key person leaves? Or when someone needs to step into a more senior role?
That’s exactly the challenge Loadhog Ltd faced, and instead of waiting until there was a problem, they chose to prepare early.
How Loadhog developed their future transport manager
The Sheffield-based company, which specialises in sustainable and reusable transit packaging solutions, partnered with TRS Training to develop Logistics Coordinator Karen Hobson through the Transport Team Leader Skills Bootcamp.
Karen was preparing to take on greater responsibility within the business as her manager approached retirement. Rather than leaving the transition to chance, Loadhog invested in structured development to ensure she had the confidence, knowledge and leadership skills needed to progress. During the programme, Karen developed a strong understanding of:
- Transport compliance and legislation
- Route planning and operational efficiency
- Vehicle checks and transport processes
- Leadership and people management
- Sustainable logistics practices
Following completion of the Skills Bootcamp and after her manager retired, Karen successfully progressed into the role of Transport Manager, after successfully achieving the transport manager CPC. The Transport Team Leader course had given her enough insight to progress onto this higher level certification after finishing the course.
Speaking about the experience, Karen said:
“The course gave me the tools and confidence I needed to be effective in a transport team leader role. I now feel ready to take the next step in my career and support Loadhog’s transport operations with greater expertise.”
For Loadhog, the benefits went far beyond training one employee. The business strengthened succession planning, improved operational knowledge within the transport department and reduced future risk, all without needing to recruit externally.
90% funded Transport Team Leader Skills Bootcamp
Now, thanks to funding from Norfolk County Council and Suffolk County Council, businesses across Norfolk and Suffolk have the opportunity to do exactly the same for their own teams at a hugely reduced cost. TRS is offering this 6-day FUNDED Transport Team Leader Skills Bootcamp (includes OLAT) to operators who have staff who live or work in the funded region. For a limited time, operators with fewer than 250 employees can access the programme for just £200 + VAT per person reduced from the normal £2,000 course cost. The course is available with 70% funding to businesses with more employees than 250.
The programme is delivered online over six weeks, with one training day per week, making it manageable for busy operations teams without lengthy time away from the business.
What’s included in the Skills Bootcamp?
The programme covers key operational and leadership skills including:
- Transport compliance and legislation
- Route planning and safe, efficient operations
- Vehicle records and walkaround checks
- Team leadership and people management
- Sustainable logistics and carbon awareness
Included within the programme is the Road Haulage Association’s Operator Licence Awareness Training (OLAT), normally costing around £350 + VAT on its own, at no additional cost.
That means businesses are not only accessing leadership and operational development, but also gaining essential compliance training that can help reduce operator risk and strengthen standards within the traffic office.
Who should apply?
The Skills Bootcamp is ideal for:
- Traffic office staff
- Planners and supervisors
- Aspiring transport team leaders
- Employees preparing for promotion
Eligible staff must:
- Be aged 19+
- Live or work in Norfolk or Suffolk
- Not have been on another Skills Bootcamp since 1st April 2026
Courses starting in May and August
The next course dates coming up are at the end of May and in August, with funded places allocated on a first-come basis. For Norfolk or Suffolk-based businesses looking to improve compliance, strengthen their traffic office operations and prepare future leaders from within, this could be one of the best-value training opportunities available this year.
