LEVEL 3 | LIVERPOOL CITY REGION | 8 WEEKS
This 8-week flexible funded online course provides in-depth knowledge and practical skills for working as a freight forwarder.
It is offered in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and the British International Freight Forwarding Association (BIFA) which runs two of their most highly regarded modules as part of the course.
The course covers essential skills and knowledge required to meet regulatory requirements for freight forwarding. The curriculum also covers the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), a regulatory requirement for many freight firms.
This for individuals who want to develop their careers in the fast-growing freight sector, or for businesses to upskill their staff to industry standards for the movement of freight.
- Freight forwarding essentials (taught by BIFA)
- Customs essentials (taught by BIFA)
- Dangerous & hazardous goods & modal restrictions (taught by TRS)
- Achieving high customer standards in freight forwarding (taught by TRS)
- Sustainability in freight forwarding: understanding challenges & achieving targets (delivered by TRS)
- How to measure & record carbon emissions (delivered by TRS)
- Alternative fuels and sustainable working practices (delivered by TRS)
This course is delivered online.
There is a short test at the end of every module and a final test at the end.
Level 3 Skills Bootcamp certification including BIFA certification.

This Skills Bootcamp is funded via the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority which means it is available to eligible businesses and candidates at a fraction of commercial costs:
- Businesses with less than 250 staff pay: £300 +VAT per participant
- Larger businesses pay: £900 + VAT per participant
- Participants:no cost to individuals doing the course.
(Commercial cost of this course is £3000)
Completing this course will enable individuals to carry out freight forwarding roles safely and productively. Further training could include team leadership or management roles in freight forwarding.
Our enrolment process is straightforward:
- online application form
- pre-training online assessments
- onboarding call with the TRS enrolment officer
After this, training begins.
Participants:
- must be aged 19 or overÂ
- must live or work in the Liverpool City Region
- can not have undertaken another Skills Bootcamp since 1st April
- Must have access to a laptop with internet access, a microphone and camera.
- Can be employed or unemployed

The TRS Team provides tailored support with anything that might affect training progress, from workplace challenges to personal concerns. Anyone who has a special educational need or a disability has access to specialist support. As well as teaching, TRS skills coaches offer careers guidance, wellbeing support, and regular mentoring throughout the learning journey.
