Abigail gets a promotion after completing apprenticeship

At 28, Abigail decided to take the next step in her career by enrolling on the Transport & Warehouse Operations Supervisor (TWOS) apprenticeship with TRS Training.

At the time, she was working for a removals firm introduced to TRS apprenticeships through our partnership with the British Association of Removers (BAR). When the opportunity to undertake the programme was offered to her, Abigail didn’t hesitate.

She saw the apprenticeship as a chance to develop new skills and open the door to career progression within the logistics industry.

Transport specialism

The TWOS apprenticeship offers two specialist pathways:

Warehouse route
Designed for those who want to become skilled warehouse managers, this route prepares learners to lead teams in busy and demanding environments.

Transport route
This pathway includes the Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), delivered by the Road Haulage Association (RHA). It provides the knowledge and skills needed to manage transport operations safely, efficiently and in line with industry regulations.

Abigail chose the transport route, as she wanted to build a long-term career in logistics and transport.

New skills and qualifications

During the programme, Abigail gained a wide range of practical knowledge and industry-recognised qualifications.

“During the course I obtained my Transport Manager CPC, along with a really comprehensive understanding of the transport world as I had never been in the transport side of my business.”

The Transport Manager CPC is a key qualification for anyone managing transport operations. It ensures that transport managers understand the legal, operational and safety responsibilities required to run compliant transport services.

For Abigail, gaining this qualification was a turning point.

Promotion and wage increase

Completing the apprenticeship gave Abigail the knowledge and confidence to take the next step in her career.

“Since this course, I have moved companies and obtained a Transport Manager position that was not possible before, with an increase in my wage.

It gave me the confidence to take the opportunity that arose as I felt I had a vast enough knowledge to move into that position.”

Today, Abigail is the Transport Manager at Ballards Removals Ltd, a Nottinghamshire-based removals company with over 40 years of industry experience.

Her journey shows how apprenticeships can provide a genuine pathway to career advancement within the logistics sector.

Flexible learning with TRS

TRS apprenticeships are designed to work around busy work schedules. Most training is delivered online, allowing learners to complete modules and log off-the-job training while balancing their day-to-day responsibilities.

With guidance from TRS trainers and staff, learners receive ongoing support throughout their apprenticeship journey.

Giving back to the industry

Since completing her apprenticeship, Abigail has become an active supporter of apprenticeships in the removals industry. She is now Chair of the Yorkshire BAR meetings, where she helps bring together professionals from across the removals sector.

“As area chair of the Yorkshire BAR meetings, I have had TRS come and speak at our latest meeting so they could reach my colleagues. I have also just set up a meeting with my MD and TRS to discuss the next steps for our staff in the workplace.”
