The BAR Academy
TRS is the British Association of Removers (BAR) official training partner for apprenticeships and other funded training. The BAR Academy is a partnership between TRS and the BAR which alongside access to training, provides information and advice on funding available for businesses to attract, skill and retain porters, drivers, managers and other staff.
Advice & guidance on maximising government funding to recruit & train removals staff
TRS works in partnership with the BAR to provide the BAR Academy. This offers apprenticeship-based career pathways for individuals who want to enter the removals sector and/or develop a long term career. Through the BAR Academy, TRS provides high-quality apprenticeship training and also funds a BAR removals industry course for every apprenticeship as a “bolt-on”. This offer is available for BAR members and non-members alike.
Through the BAR Academy, TRS also provides free, information, advice and guidance (IAG), and “all-bases-covered” support to help removals firms set up government-funded programmes such as apprenticeships and Skills Bootcamps. TRS Training programmes are designed to support long-term workforce development, using apprenticeships and other funded courses to build clear skills and career pathways that support both business growth and individual progression.
The BAR Academy gives BAR members and non-members a “one-stop shop” for everything to do with government funded training and recruitment initiatives.
BAR Academy benefits
Maximise funding
Making the BAR Academy your first port of call for skills will ensure you are maximising the funding available to your firm for skills development.
Develop HGV drivers
Upskill your porters or other staff members through the FUNDED LGV driver apprenticeship (Cat C+E) or urban driver apprenticeship (Cat C/C1)
Grow managers
Develop promising team members into leaders and managers with FUNDED apprenticeships and FUNDED BAR industry course bolt-ons
Funded apprenticeships with FREE BAR bolt-on courses
Most apprenticeships available to BAR members and non-members through the BAR Academy include a fully funded removals industry bolt-on qualification, provided at NO COST to employers. These bolt-ons enhance the value of apprenticeships by developing broader, job-ready skills aligned to removals operations.
Removals firms can choose a bolt-on course to pair with the apprenticeship for their staff member, from a wide selection including IOSH, OLAT, Hazardous Goods Awareness and many removals specific courses available through the BAR such as specialist packing or removals vehicle loading. There are a few examples below to illustrate how apprenticeships can be combined with industry bolt-on courses through the BAR Academy.
Bolt-on courses are subject to eligibility criteria and programme rules. Apprentices must normally complete 6–9 months of their apprenticeship before accessing bolt-on training. Bolt-on courses delivered by our partners must always be booked through TRS. Additional terms and conditions apply. Please ask for details.
