Kevin’s session also shone the spotlight on TRS’s success in working with companies to use the LGV Apprenticeship as a solution to the UK’s LGV driver shortage. He outlined the content of the apprenticeship which features training in all skills, knowledges and behaviours required to be a competent LGV driver including:

·        LGV theory & hazard perception test

·        CPC module 2 & 4

·        Workplace mentoring/shadowing

·        LGV driving lessons and test

·        BAR one day training course

·        Maths & English if applicable

Kevin outlined the benefits of using apprenticeships as experienced by employers who already use them, including staff commitment and loyalty. He also clarified how apprenticeships are funded: using the levy for large employers, and government funding for smaller employers (with a wage bill of less than £3m).
