TRS deliver apprenticeship workshop at British Association of Removers annual conference

TRS Training were invited to deliver an apprenticeship awareness session to removals companies at the British Association of Removers (BAR) annual conference last month in Stratford Upon Avon.

Who are BAR?

For over 100 years, the British Association of Removers has been dedicated to promoting professional excellence in the removals Industry, developing and maintaining professional standards and services for the benefit of its members and their customers.

Apprenticeship session

Kevin Birch, director of TRS Training was one of several key speakers at the high profile conference. His session focussed on outlining apprenticeship programmes that are relevant to firms operating in the removals industry including:

·        LGV Driver Apprenticeship

·        Supply Chain Operator Apprenticeship (Traffic Office)

·        Supply Chain Operator (Porters)

 

LGV Apprenticeship as answer to UK driver shortage

 

Kevin’s session also shone the spotlight on TRS’s success in working with companies to use the LGV Apprenticeship as a solution to the UK’s LGV driver shortage. He outlined the content of the apprenticeship which features training in all skills, knowledges and behaviours required to be a competent LGV driver including:

 

·        LGV theory & hazard perception test

·        CPC module 2 & 4

·        Workplace mentoring/shadowing

·        LGV driving lessons and test

·        BAR one day training course

·        Maths & English if applicable

Funding

Kevin outlined the benefits of using apprenticeships as experienced by employers who already use them, including staff commitment and loyalty. He also clarified how apprenticeships are funded: using the levy for large employers, and government funding for smaller employers (with a wage bill of less than £3m).
